In every case, a lawyer must listen and take care to learn and appreciate the full context, not merely the surface-level facts. By taking time to acquire a nuanced understanding of the client’s business and the industry in which it operates, the lawyer is better able to assess and advise the client on the strengths and weaknesses of a particular dispute and to advocate the client’s position with sophistication.
The goal is not merely to achieve a reasonable resolution,
but to pursue the optimal resolution as efficiently as possible.
